Hello!
My name is Kayanaat Chaudhry, and I am an Industrial design student at The Ohio State University with a minor in City and Regional Planning. Industrial design can bring many opportunities through product, concept, system, user, and service designs. It is also a vehicle for social change and innovation. I hope to be able to help the people around me through the creative practices of design thinking, design production, and design research.
I find inspiration in my family and the world around me. I love going on walks, trying extreme activities like zip-lining, and just about anything outside. I have found design to be a bridge between helping communities and my creative processes and interests. Ever since I was a little kid, I would use design in drawing, cooking, problem-solving, and even sports. Whether it was visualizing a play in field hockey or experimenting with Arabic calligraphy, I have found design to be a common theme through it all.
Growing up in America as Pakistani and Muslim, I was exposed to many different cultures, ideas, and social issues. Another one of my passions stems from sociology and the fight for social justice. I have participated in many social justice organizations, ranging from education to fundraising, and I hope to use design as a bridge between cultures, communities, and social structures in the future. The process of finding solutions to larger problems is what excites me most about design itself and I can’t wait to delve further into the study. Design can change the way we perceive the diversity and differences between us, and I am excited to make a difference through design!
Although I am not completely set on what field of Industrial Design I am most interested in, I am most excited for the millions of opportunities that come in the field of design. Exploring new things and entering new perspectives of seeing design is on of my biggest goals right now. I want to expand my worldview and become a more well-rounded designer before I find my niche.
