At Urban Arts Space, a senior staff member and I worked on data collection and analysis for grant applications and general gallery records. Through this process, we discovered that our current data collection process was not productive in understanding our operations or collecting data for grant applications. For this reason, we worked to redesign our "daily blog," which is a Microsoft form completed everyday at close for documentation purposes, and create a new programming blog. Our goal was for our data collection to become more accurate, informative, efficient, and meaningful.
redesigned daily blog
The redesigned daily blog was changed to focus solely on gallery attendance and exhibitions outside of Urban Arts Space programming. This allows those working the front desk to easily know what to include in the form, and it removes any confusion from recording programming that they may not have been a part of. This blog is to be completed every day by an intern who is closing at both Urban Arts Space and Hopkins Hall Gallery.
new programming blog
In order to continue to record programming data in a productive manner, a new programming blog was created to separate programming and normal daily information. The new programming blog delegates responsibility to the senior staff member organizing the program rather than an intern who is closing the galleries. Each program will have its own entry and will be categorized based on both Urban Arts Space needs and grant application needs.
original daily blog
The original daily blog convoluted regular daily information with programming data and those who were completing it were not always aware of the specificities of the programs taking place. In addition to this, the original blog was outdated in regards to current programming efforts and it limited responses. The data that came out of this blog was random and arbitrary rather than targeted towards archiving gallery operation data and expediting the grant application process.
