Sarak Pe Karak, which means Chai on the Street in Urdu, is a project focusing on the cultural importance and rituals surrounding chai in Pakistan. Chai is often drank outside in afternoons and late evenings with others as a form of quality time and community bonding. Based on this cultural significance of chai, we decided to redesign the tea kettle to create an outdoor portable kettle to recreate the experience of coming together as a community and connecting with nature through the ritual of drinking chai outside. The forms, materials, and patterns used in the project are derived directly from other important objects within Pakistani food culture like the tiffin, a stackable lunch container that was created for Pakistani/South Asian cuisine. This project was done in Montréal in Canada using a hybrid of French and English. It was also done in collaboration with Elise Aultman.
